WASHINGTON, D.C.—As part of its Hiring Our Heroes initiative, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce today joined with Dr. Jill Biden – co-chair of the White House’s Joining Forces initiative – and the Department of Defense to launch the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), which will connect America’s employers directly to military spouses to create meaningful, long-term employment opportunities.

“We have a shared goal with the Administration in giving employers access to a diverse and uniquely talented workforce. This starts with our nation’s veterans and military spouses,” said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “Make no mistake, this is the right thing to do. Those who serve our nation deserve no less. But it is also the smart thing to do. It’s good business.”

The Chamber joined 14 other corporate partners as part of today’s launch, giving MSEP a total of 72 employers who have committed to hiring America’s military spouses. The partnership consists of Fortune 500 “PLUS” companies, which include small and large businesses, government agencies, and organizations across America. MSEP, working with Hiring Our Heroes and the Joining Forces initiatives, is rapidly expanding the number of dedicated employers in its effort to help military families deal with unique challenges to include frequent relocations and long separations.

Today’s event is the latest step in the Chamber’s recent launch of the Hiring Our Heroes initiative. This is a nationwide public-private partnership that will host 100 hiring fairs across the country over the course of a year to help veterans and military spouses find employment in their local communities. The Chamber is leveraging its extensive network of 1,700 state and local chambers and partnering with the Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS) and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) to connect talented veterans and military spouses with jobs in the private sector.

The Chamber’s partnership with MSEP will be implemented on July 10th in Los Angeles, where Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will help to raise awareness and increase military spouse participation in future hiring events. Hiring our Heroes Los Angeles will connect 200 employers with over 1,000 veterans and 500 military spouses—ten times the number of spouses who attended each of the Chamber’s previous ten fairs.
