SEDCOR’s Construction Alliance has the Mid-Willamette Valley Ready for Development

By Strategic Economic Development Corporation,

Salem, Ore. 29 June 2009 – The Strategic Economic Development Corporation (SEDCOR), the economic development agency for Marion and Polk Counties, has created an Alliance to create a competitive advantage to serve the needs of developers, companies and investors involved in the Mid-Willamette Valley’s construction industry. Over 30 companies, from developers and builders, to HVAC and concrete services have been involved with the formation of the group. The partnership will promote quality of work, as well as their capabilities to support the local workforce and keep local dollars in the community. This collaboration will help the Construction Alliance members increase profitability through networking, value-added services and increased visibility.

The Alliance’s mission is dedicated to providing a strategic and economically competitive advantage to investors, developers and corporations working to improve the economic diversity and wellbeing of the Mid-Willamette Valley. A competitive advantage is realized through this partnership of selected construction industry professionals who have proven themselves equally committed to integrity, excellence, education and accountability in all aspects of business and construction.

The Alliance is taking advantage of a training program that has been developed by SEDCOR and Chemeketa Community College. Both are assisting the group in developing training modules to promote their mission of excellence in the industry. This talent development program will capture and transfer the expertise of highly skilled construction practitioners to the next generation of workers. This will help establish the SEDCOR Construction Alliance as the premier source for construction practice, management and leadership talent development activities.

“The idea behind this program is to ensure that our region has its collective resources and skills ready for potential developers that come to town,” says Alliance member Jack Johnston of Golden Rule Remodeling & Architecture, Inc. The goal is to establish the SEDCOR Construction Alliance as the premier source for construction practice, management and leadership talent development activities throughout the Mid-Willamette Valley region.

As Nick Harville, SEDCOR’s Retention/Expansion Manager explains, “The Construction Alliance provides a one-stop-shop for developers who are considering building in our region. We’ve created a terrific network of skills that will be an incredibly valuable resource to potential developers.”

Rich Duncan of Rich Duncan Construction, Inc. says, “As a community, we are raising the bar in the industry. We are becoming leaders in education, training and workforce development.”
