Schrader backs debt reduction bill

Kurt-schrader. Congressman Kurt Schrader

Congressman Kurt Schrader (OR-05) supported H.R. 3442, the Debt Management and Fiscal Responsibility Act, a bill that requires the Secretary of the Treasury to report to Congress on the Administration’s long-term debt reduction plan any time the country nears reaching the debt limit.

“As a Blue Dog, I will continue to demand fiscal responsibility of our government and requiring the Treasury Department, the entity that pays our nation’s bills, to come to Congress with long-term solutions to our debt and deficit crisis is commonsense,” said Schrader. “By passing bill after bill with price tag after price tag, we are doing harm to our children and grandchildren. We need a plan to deal with our debt and this bill will help get us there.”

The Debt Management and Fiscal Responsibility Act passed the House by a vote of 267-151.

Schrader and 27 other Democrats broke with their party to support the bill.
