Business Oregon will lead an Oregon delegation of six technology companies as well as university representatives as they present their ideas for new technologies at the third National Innovation Summit June 15-18 in Washington, D.C.

The effort to commercialize and develop the new technologies comes from the ongoing efforts of Oregon’s technology sector in conjunction with the Oregon Innovation Council (Oregon InC) as well as Oregon State University, Portland State University, Oregon Health & Science University and the University of Oregon.

“The National Innovation Summit provides an exceptional opportunity to showcase the type of groundbreaking new technologies innovators in Oregon are producing,” said Business Oregon Director Sean Robbins. “The results coming out of our investment in the Oregon Innovation Council are tangible, bringing entrepreneurs, university researchers and venture capital together to kick-start new ideas that turn into new companies that turn into new jobs for Oregon.”

The six Oregon companies attending the event are: Microflow CVO, Inc.; AMES Technology, Inc.; SupraSensor Technologies; Beet Inc.; VoxtelNano; and OnTo Technologies. In addition, representatives from the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI) and the Oregon Built Environment & Sustainable Technologies Center (Oregon BEST), two of Oregon InC’s Signature Research Centers, will attend the innovation showcase.

One of the goals of the Oregon delegation is to highlight at least 11 new technologies in the areas of advanced materials, energy and biotechnology developed here in Oregon. The Summit affords opportunities to connect these emerging technologies with private sector and government funding.

The National Innovation Summit was started in response to calls by the White House and the U.S. Congress for innovation commercialization initiatives. The meeting is believed to be the world’s largest showcase of industry-vetted emerging-technologies ready for commercialization.

The National Innovation Showcase will be held in conjunction with the National Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Conference. The SBIR and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are highly competitive programs, which encourage small businesses to engage in federal research and development work in order to achieve commercialization for emerging technologies. At this year’s SBIR Conference, representatives from all 11 federal agencies with SBIR programs will attend, in addition to other SBIR/STTR experts and trainers.
