Press Release,

Congressman Kurt Schrader (OR-5) released the following statement in response to the announcement this week that the Port of Portland has terminated its contract with ICTSI after nearly a year of stalled shipping in Terminal 6 over a labor dispute.

“This could be a brighter future for the Port of Portland,” said Rep. Schrader. “The opportunity to have a new manager for Terminal 6 gives our farming and manufacturing communities renewed hope that this fresh start can bring container service back to the Port, and seize on the economic value that’s gone unrealized for the last couple years. Ending this contract won’t solve every problem, but it could be a good first step, and I hope all parties act in good faith going forward.”

ICTSI had entered into a 25-year lease agreement with the Port of Portland to operate Terminal 6, but due to ongoing labor disputes with the International Longshore Workers Union, the terminal sat unused for nearly a year. The Port will retain $10 million in equipment and will receive over $11 million from ICTSI for the company to be released from its contact.
