Record high fuel prices have moved Horizon Air to trim back flights while purchasing newer planes that carry more passengers and are more fuel efficient.   Horizon will be reducing Medford-Portland flights from five to four, Eugene-Portland from three to two and completely ending service to Klamath Falls and North Bend/Coos Bay on October 11th.  For many  flights seating will increase by as much as 36% even with less scheduled departures.

The new planes are the Q400 Bombardiers which Horizon describes as “the most fuel efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft of its size in the world, burning 30 percent less fuel and producing 30 percent less CO2 than a comparable jet. Horizon currently has 34 Q400s in its fleet and holds options for 20 more.”
